HSE consider five new sites for stalled Finglas primary care centre
FIVE sites have been proposed for the stalled Finglas primary care centre following a planning setback earlier this year.
The much-anticipated facility was due to be built on a site on Mellowes Road which proved controversial with residents as it is a green space.
The plans were approved by Dublin City Council last September but An Bord Pleanala overturned the decision on appeal in February.
Local TDs Roisin Shorthall and John Lyons said at the time that there was no plan B for the facility which was desperately needed in the area.
Now there are five options on the table under consideration for the medical centre.
Sites on Barry Road, Cardiffsbridge Road, Wellmount Drive, Saint Helena's and Finglas Road are being considered by the HSE as potential localtions.
It is hoped that the state-of-the-art facility will have space for 10 GP clinics and a host of specialised medical services.
Any site that is chosen will also need to have sufficient car parking spaces.
"There simply aren't enough GPs in the area to serve the large population of Finglas South and Finglas West, and a Primary Care Centre is badly needed for local people," Cllr Noel Rock told the Herald.
He warned that more cooperation was needed this time.
"I hope the HSE and DCC will work with the community on this and ensure there are no slip-ups like last time," he said.
