Hozier among the big names up for Ivor Novello artists' awards

Sam Smith and FKA Twigs also nominated

HOZIER has been nominated for an Ivor Novello music award along with Sam Smith and FKA Twigs - the up-and-coming singer and girlfriend of actor Robert Pattinson.

The 25-year-old Take Me To Church singer, from Bray, is in the running for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

Presented by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA), the awards, which are marking their 60th anniversary, are highly prized.

"In their 60th year, The Ivors nominations continue to reflect the health and diversity of British and Irish songwriting and composing," said BASCA chairman Simon Darlow.

"These awards were created to raise the profile of our best creative talent and today's nominations, which include a host of fresh new writers, demonstrate that The Ivors continue to achieve this."

Royal Blood, Present Tense and Bombay Bicycle Club are up for the Album Award.

Best TV Soundtrack features BBC drama The Honourable Woman, the second Channel 4 series of The Mill and ITV's Victorian murder mystery The Suspicions of Mr Whicher - Beyond the Pale.

Original Film Score pits Mr Turner against Belfast survival thriller 71 and animated movie The Boxtrolls.

The awards ceremony, which honours works released in the UK during 2014, takes place on May 21 at Grosvenor House in London.

Recipients of other awards, including Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Song Collection, will also be named on the night.
