Honours pupil dealt cocaine

AN HONOURS student dropped out of school and started dealing crack cocaine after he developed a cannabis addiction problem.

The 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to possessing crack cocaine worth €500 for sale or supply, at the South Circular Road, in Dublin, on a date last February.

Judge Ann Ryan heard at the Dublin Children's Court that the boy had no prior criminal convictions. He got seven honours in higher level subjects in the Junior Certificate; soon after that, he dropped out of school.

Sentencing was adjourned until March.
