Hometown walkway honours Ireland footballing legend Noel
ONE of Ireland's greatest ever footballers has been commemorated by his home city.
The late Manchester United, West Ham and Ireland star Noel Cantwell was honoured by Cork City Council naming a walkway from the Mardyke and Western Road after him.
Among those who attended were Ireland assistant manager and former United captain Roy Keane and FAI boss John Delaney.
Maggie Cantwell said her late husband, who died in 2005 aged 73, adored his hometown.
"He was a true son of Cork. He loved this city," she said.
Noel captained United to the 1963 FA Cup and two league titles.
