RTE hotelier Francis Brennan is mourning the death of his beloved mother Maura at the age of 97.

She died at the North West Hospice in Sligo, the town she had lived in for the past 40 years. She was pre-deceased by her husband Tom.

The mother of five's funeral notice said she will be "sadly missed by her sons, daughters, her adored 11 grandchildren, in-laws, close cousins, superb neighbours and wide circle of friends in Ireland and abroad".

Well-known TV personality Francis previously revealed how his mum loved having people into her home in Sligo and had "more visitors than the Pope".

He said she used to welcome in up to 10 visitors a day and credits her with his love for hospitality.

Along with Francis' brother John, she was also mother to son Damian and daughters Catherine and Susan.

Maura married husband Tom, a former grocer from Dublin's Stepaside, and they originally lived in the capital before moving to Sligo when Tom was diagnosed with emphysema.

He passed away in 1998.

Her funeral mass will take place tomorrow at St John's Church in Carraroe, Co Sligo, followed by burial in Sligo Cemetery.

The funeral notice asked for donations in lieu of flowers to go to the local St Vincent de Paul or care of the Foley and McGowan funeral home in Sligo.

One of Ireland's best-known hoteliers, Francis has been running the five-star Park Hotel in Kenmare along with brother John since 1980.

He has made a string of TV shows with RTE based around his knowledge of the hospitality industry, before branching out into travel shows in which he took a busload of Irish tourists to foreign destinations.

He is just back from a New Year break to Malta, where he took staff in his hotel away for their annual trip following the busy festive season.

Francis is currently making a new show for RTE, Five-Star Training Academy, which sees him teach graduates about the hospitality industry.
