Guinness Storehouse still top attraction as 1.7 million visit
The Guinness Storehouse will be raising a glass to its success after being named Ireland's most popular fee-charging visitor attraction last year with 1.7 million visitors.
The annual Failte Ireland survey revealed the Cliffs of Moher visitor experience followed closely in second place with an impressive 1.5 million visitors, an increase of more than 3pc on the previous year.
Meanwhile, Dublin Zoo held the third spot with more than 1.2 million visiting in the same category.
The survey also collates visitor numbers on free-to-enter attractions, with a new entry, Kilkenny Castle Parklands, top of the list with 799,032 visitors.
The National Gallery of Ireland was in second place with 775,491 visitors.
Speaking about the results of survey, Failte Ireland's director of product development Orla Carroll said: "While 2018 was a positive year... there are many challenges ahead for the tourism industry."
She said that Failte Ireland's role is to support the development of a "world-class" tourism sector.
"Our work with attractions in helping them grow visitor numbers through training and funding is a [big] part of what we do," she said.
"Over the course of 2018, Failte Ireland approved grant funding of more than €31m for 46 projects."
The other fee-charging attractions that made the top 10 were: the Book of Kells in fourth place with more than one million visitors; Tayto Park (700,000); St Patrick's Cathedral (627,199); Kylemore Abbey and Garden (561,657); Muckross House (550,649); Powerscourt House, Gardens and Waterfall (472,523) and Blarney Castle and Gardens (460,000).
