Group vows to fight fish farm

A group protesting against a proposed fish farm off the coast of Galway has vowed to pursue the matter to Europe.

A decision on the salmon farm in Galway will be made before the summer, the Minister for Agriculture said.

Simon Coveney said he was receiving scientific and environmental advice in relation to the large scale application.

However, groups opposed to the proposal have vowed to fight any application that may be granted all the way to Europe.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) submitted an application for a 15,000 tonne salmon fish farm near Inis Oirr in August 2012. If granted it would be the largest of its kind in Europe.
