Grieving clubber punched bystander
A man who got involved in a drunken nightclub melee while mourning the death of a friend by suicide punched an "innocent bystander" in the face then escaped from garda custody, a court has heard.
Sean Hardy (20) left his victim with a bloody nose, before running from a garda patrol car when he was released from custody by another friend.
When he was rearrested, he damaged the cells of the garda station by urinating on them.
The judge adjourned the case for a probation report.
At Dublin District Court, Hardy, of Beverly Avenue, Knocklyon, admitted public drunkenness, assault causing harm to a man, escaping custody and criminal damage after being arrested at 21 nightclub on D'Olier Street.
Hardy had been out with a group of friends on the night, and one of their close friends had taken his own life, defence solicitor Michael Kelleher said.
They took the loss very badly and drank very heavily on the night.
The defendant was "extremely embarrassed and horrified by what happened", he said.
