Grand Canyon abuse grandad is sent to jail
A man convicted of child abuse for forcing his three grandsons on a gruelling hike in the Grand Canyon was sentenced to 27 months in prison -- the minimum term the US judge could have imposed.
Christopher Alan Carlson (45) already has served nearly 10 months in prison and could be eligible for early release.
The boys who were eight, nine and 12 at the time, testified that Carlson kicked or hit them if they were too slow on a 15-mile hike and a 19-mile hike.
A ranger reported seeing Carlson shoving the oldest boy and whipping him with a rolled-up T-shirt.
