Girl guilty of cigarette row

A 16-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to attacking another girl during a row about a cigarette.

The teenager admitted assaulting a girl on a date in May last year.

She has been remanded on bail pending sentence at the Dublin Children's Court.



Jail for lifelong lady thief (80)

An 80-year-old woman with a decades-long criminal history has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing an $8,900 (e6,515) diamond ring.

Doris Payne was convicted last month of burglary and grand theft in connection with the 2010 theft at a shop in San Diego.



Alleged drugs baron arrested

An alleged lieutenant of the powerful Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel -- who is wanted in the US on drug charges --has been detained for 40 days.

The Attorney General's Office said federal agents arrested Adan Salazar Zamorano, who faces drug charges in Texas.
