Girl (16) shot dead
A 16-YEAR-OLD girl was ruthlessly murdered in a drive-by shooting in Dublin. Innocent teenager Melanie McCarthy-McNamara was blasted in the face from a shotgun as she sat in a car last night.
A drugs gang was today being blamed for the murder in Tallaght.
Ms McCarthy-McNamara became the youngest ever victim of gangland violence in the capital.
"They didn't care who they shot. They just blasted the car and Melanie took the full force of the blast," said a garda.
"She didn't stand a chance. The killer was completely reckless. It's just sickening," said the source.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter said he was appalled by the "unacceptable" murder.
He said the Garda Commissioner would keep him fully updated on the progress of this very worrying escalation in gun crime in the capital.
The innocent teenager was sitting in a car with three other people at Brookview Way in Tallaght at 10.30pm last night when a black SUV pulled up alongside and an occupant of the jeep opened fire.
Melanie -- who was sitting in the back seat of the silver Nissan Almera -- was hit in the face and the head from one shot in the incident.
The tragic victim was due to celebrate her 17th birthday later this month.
