Germany vows to fight for euro
German Chancellor Angela Merkel vowed to keep the euro intact as the strain of keeping Greece afloat opened divisions among European Central Bank policy makers.
Ms Merkel was to meet Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at a European Union summit in Brussels yesterday. Work to prepare for more financial aid for Greece has stalled, and the European Central Bank is fending off claims that it has been tightening the screws.
"If the euro fails, Europe fails," Ms Merkel said.
