A BANNED driver who was tracked along a busy motorway by gardai has been sentenced to eight months in jail.
Darren Hutch (34) has 31 previous no-insurance convictions and was already banned from driving for 25 years.
The defendant, of Virginia Drive in Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to using a stolen vehicle at Palmerstown Demesne, Naas, Co Kildare on September 26, 2013.
He also admitted to driving without insurance or a driving licence in the same incident.
Sergeant Mary Doherty said gardai in Co Kildare received a call about a 2004-registered car which had earlier been stolen at Cahir, Co Tipperary and was on the motorway, heading towards Naas.
Sgt Doherty said gardai tracked the car and followed it into Naas, where Hutch was stopped driving the vehicle.
Hutch also admitted to possession of €100 worth of heroin on January 14, 2012.
Defence solicitor Fiona Brennan said Hutch received a five year sentence for drugs offences in July.
She asked the judge not to increase Hutch's sentence.
Ms Brennan said Hutch's child has a serious medical condition and he has only seen the child once since he went into custody due to a hygiene situation.
Judge David McHugh imposed an eight month sentence and disqualified Hutch from driving for 15 years.
