Gardai seize over €250k of drugs and guns in raids
Gardai have seized more than €250,000 worth of cocaine and two firearms in separate operations in Dublin.
In the first raid, a man in his 40s was arrested at a unit in the Rowlagh Shopping Centre on Neilstown Road in Clondalkin at around 2pm on Tuesday, when officers from Ronanstown carried out the raid.
It is understood that the arrested man may have been "minding" the drugs for a close associate of his who was the target of the raid.
He was being questioned at Ronanstown Garda Station last night.
Other drug paraphernalia was located and seized during follow-up searches, including in the Liscarne area of Clondalkin.
Meanwhile, as part of a separate operation, gardai from Finglas recovered two firearms and €70,000 worth of drugs at around 9pm on Tuesday.
Sources said a rifle and a handgun were found with the kilo of cocaine.
The suspect was first arrested when the car he was travelling in was stopped by gardai and a small quantity of drugs was found.
This led to the follow-up search where the bigger haul and weapons were found in the Prospect Hill area of Finglas.
"The firearm and drugs were seized when gardai, attached to the Finglas District Drugs Unit, carried out a planned search of a premises at Tolka Estate, Glasnevin, on Tuesday at approximately 9pm," a garda spokesman said.
"One man, in his mid-30s, was arrested a short time later in the Finglas area," the spokesman added.
The suspect remained in garda custody last night.
Some of the capital's most active drugs gangs operate in the areas where Tuesday's busts occurred.
Gardai have had notable successes against drugs gangs over the past week.
Last Thursday night in Raheny, officers seized over €200,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine in a raid.
This included €56,000 worth of cocaine and the rest was cannabis herb (€100,000) and cannabis resin (€54,000).
