Gardai seize €560k cocaine

A MAN was due to appear in court this morning in connection with the seizure of €560,000 of cocaine.

Garda officers found the drugs in a van in Co Kilkenny yesterday evening.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was brought to Thomastown Garda Station.

The man was expected to appear before Kilkenny District Court at 10.30 this morning.

Four Seasons hitmaker dies

Bob Crewe, co-writer of Can't Take My Eyes Off of You, Big Girls Don't Cry and many other pop hits, has died. He was 83.

The cause of death was unavailable.

New Jersey-born Crewe co-wrote a number of memorable hits before helping put together The Four Seasons and meeting future collaborator Bob Gaudio.

Songs written by the two helped The Four Seasons define an era in music with hits like Walk Like a Man, Rag Doll, and Frankie Valli's solo hit Can't Take My Eyes Off of You.

Pair face farm 'slave' charges

The prosecution case against a father and son accused of forcing a man to work at their farm was expected to begin today.

Daniel Doran (67), and David Dan Doran (42), were arrested following a police raid at Cariad Farm, near Newport, last year.

It came after Kidderminster man Darrell Simester, who had been missing since 2000, was found living at the same site.

Both Dorans have pleaded not guilty to a charge of requiring Mr Simester to perform compulsory labour between April 6, 2010 and March 1, 2013.

Sponsors eye London wheel

Coca-Cola is to become the new sponsor of the London Eye, it has been revealed.

The ride has been a leading tourist attraction ever since it was introduced in 2000, when it was known as the Millennium Wheel.

It was previously sponsored by British Airways before becoming the EDF Energy London Eye in 2011.

Coca-Cola will become the new sponsor from January.
