Gardai called as students storm Supermacs
DOZENS of students laid siege to a Supermacs outlet as an unofficial Rag Week got rowdy.
Up to 100 youths had to be removed from Galway's Eyre Square after they took over the fast food restaurant and a flare was later set off in the middle of a large crowd.
Over 40 arrests have been made in the city in the past week as students continue to mark the Rag Week, disbanded as a result of incidents in previous years.
However, that didn't stop certain groups from renaming it Social Week and keeping the party going.
Rowdy scenes inside the restaurant were put on YouTube, with a staff member looking visibly distressed.
Gardai were called to the scene and they finally managed to move the crowd outside while the restaurant was closed on health and safety grounds.
However, the group failed to disperse outside and the situation deteriorated when a flare was set alight. A man in his early 20s was arrested following the flare incident and a file is to be sent to the DPP.
