Fruitful year for Total
dublin company Total Produce said it sold fruit worth €1.59bn for the first six months of 2014.
That was 1.7pc less than the same time last year.
However, operating profit at the company increased 5.8pc to €27m at the fresh fruit and health food exporter.
Total Produce, which owes its origins to Smithfield markets in the capital, blamed the fall in sales on excess supply in some key lines which led to downward pressure on prices in the six-month period. Warm spring weather led to a change in demand, Total Produce added.
