From a mob wife to Elf for star Aoibhinn

Irish actress, Aoibhínn McGinnity, gets festive as she announces her role in Elf The Musical at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

She's used to playing a gangster's moll but now Love/hate's Aoibhinn McGinnty is going to be showing her softer side as she takes to the stage in Christmas musical, Elf.

The musical is based on the popular 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell.

Aoibhinn will take on the lead role of Jovie who was played by Zooey Deschanel in the movie.

The Monaghan native has described the role as a "dream come true".

Speaking of the change of pace Aoibhinn said she's going to relish being back on stage.

"Musical theatre has been a huge passion of mine from a young age and I'm really looking forward to performing on The Bord Gais Energy Theatre stage.

"I'm really grateful for the opportunities that Love/Hate has brought my way and it's brilliant that I'm getting new parts as a result of its success."

McGinnty will be joined on stage by West End star Ben Forster who will star as Buddy the Elf when it takes to the stage this Christmas from December 16 to January 10.
