Irish Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan has confirmed she’ll be attending the Cannes Film Festival next week.
Lucky Saoirse was chosen by Hollywood hunk Ryan Gosling as one of the stars in his directorial debut Lost River, which is expected to be one of the festival highlights.
And all eyes will be on young Saoirse as she turns on the glam next Tuesday alongside her big name co-stars Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn and Matt Smith.
A source said: “She’s really excited about going over, it’s always a glamorous event so she’s already deciding what to wear for the red carpet.”
Described a fantasy thriller, the youngster takes on the part of the girl-next-door called Rat who joins forces with the lead character Billy.
He discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town with the two youngsters diving deep into the mystery in order to keep their families alive.
On working with The Notebook’ star Ryan, who has given up acting for directing, she described him as a “goofball” and who was nothing like his serious persona.
“He’s really, really cool. He takes his job seriously and he takes what we were doing seriously but he’s the best guy to be around. He’s so much fun. I love him,” she said.
She admitted how she was also the envy of all her pals back in Ireland after she told them she was going to be working with the acclaimed actor.
“I told one of my best friends as she told me if I ever worked with Robert Pattinson or Ryan Gosling, she needed to come with me. So I told her, Guess what, I’m working with Ryan Gosling.’ And she grabbed my wrist really tightly and was like, I’m going to kill you.’ So she was really happy for me.”
Saoirse recently finished filming on her new movie with Domhnall Gleeson entitled Brooklyn, leaving herself free to mingle with all the celebs, including Hollywood A-listers Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore and Zoe Saldana, who were all spotted at functions in France’s movie capital.
Meanwhile, the green flag will be flying high at the sun-kissed event, which kicked off with Nicole Kidman’s new movie on Princess Grace.
Also over for the glitzy event will be Oscar-winner Jim Sheridan and Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham. The well-known Dublin er’s over there to help promote his film Let Us Prey.
