Five boys quizzed over 'gang rape' of girl (15)

Five teen boys have been arrested on suspicion of an alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old girl who was unconscious.

The young girl told detectives that the boys - one of whom was just 14 - raped her in her home in south Dublin.

The schoolboys, ranging in age between 14 and 15, were arrested by investigating gardai on Saturday and Sunday.

They were held at various garda stations in South Dublin over the weekend while searches were conducted at their homes.

All the teenagers were released yesterday and a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The arrests related to an incident which occurred in Knocklyon, South Dublin, last March. Gardai from Rathfarnham are investigating.

The alleged victim told detectives she was raped after the boys gave her alcohol.

A file has been sent to the DPP which will now decide if charges should be pressed against the teenage boys.

It has been alleged that the girl met the boys, who she did not know very well, while out with some friends. The group went back to her own home where she drank alcohol.

She told gardai she went to an upstairs bathroom to get sick and this is when the alleged attack occurred.

The young teenager told gardai that she was repeatedly raped while unconscious in the room.

The girl's mother found out about the incident a few days later and contacted gardai.

Officers have taken statements from the girl and and from the other teenagers who were allegedly at the house at the time.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, gardai in Kerry are investigating after an elderly woman endured an horrific ordeal when she was subjected to a violent sexual assault in her own home.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was attacked by a man who entered her home and sexually assaulted her before making his escape.

The attack happened between 5.30am and 8am on Saturday when the man broke into her home in Sneem, in south Co Kerry.

The traumatised woman raised the alarm and was taken to the Sexual Assault Unit at Cork University Hospital. It is the second sexual attack being investigated by gardai in Kerry over the weekend.

It is understood there was also an incident at the woman's home earlier that day when a group of youths surrounded the house.

The attack in south Kerry was followed in the early hours of Monday morning by another alleged sexual assault in Killarney town centre, following All-Ireland celebrations.

The assault happened in the Fair Hill car park behind the courthouse in the town at around 2.30am. There were crowds of revellers in Killarney that night celebrating Kerry's victory in the All-Ireland senior and minor football finals.

An area in the car park was sealed off yesterday to facilitate a forensic examination.
