Firms to bring back pay rises
ALMOST half of Irish-based employers are expecting to offer their workers a pay rise next year, according to a new survey which suggests a glimmer of hope for the country's economy.
Some 41pc of employers are projecting salary increases for all of their staff in 2011 while 36pc are planning increases for part of their workforce.
As 22pc are anticipating a pay freeze, only 1pc of respondents said they foresee pay cuts.
Meanwhile, half of the companies reported a decrease in staff between 2009 and 2010, according to the study carried out by human resources consultancy, Mercer.
Another 27pc of the organisations plan to reduce employee numbers in 2011.
Patrick Robertson, senior consultant with Mercer's Human Capital business, said: "Many have taken action to manage remuneration costs and headcount within their organisation and they are now more confident about 2011 and beyond."
