THE Competition Authority recorded a 70pc jump in company mergers compared to the year before, but overall the number of deals were back at 2003 levels.
Media, food and agriculture companies were the most active sectors in 2010, according to a report from McCann FitzGerald.
Partner with McCann FitzGerald, Philip Andrews, said 2010 was a mixed year for Ireland's mergers and acquisitions.
"While, on the one hand, we have seen a 70pc increase in notifications, this follows a record low in 2009 and takes us back to 2003 levels when 47 deals were notified to the Competition Authority," he said. "Compare this to 98 deals in 2006."
