Firemen battle blaze at ESB sub-station
A fault at an ESB sub- station caused a fire on the grounds of the National Museum of Ireland and sent flames and smoke into the air, knocking out power in the area.
Dublin Fire Brigade received several calls from the public when the fire broke out on the grounds of Collins Barracks near Heuston Station.
The fault cut off power to about 600 customers in the immediate area, including some businesses, an ESB spokesperson said.
"A minor fire occured in the sub-station in the grounds of arts and history museum at 7.38pm and ESB Network crews restored power to all the premises by 9pm," the company said.
The main power supply for Heuston Station was also affected, but it has a back-up generator. A spokesman for Iarnrod Eireann confirmed that the train timetable was unaffected.
Three fire crews brought the fire under control and there were no reports of injuries.
