A man who was acting suspiciously in a car stopped by gardai at a checkpoint was found with cannabis, a court has heard.

Keith Byrne (27) avoided a conviction after he donated €200 to the Fr Peter McVerry Trust.

Nervously

The defendant, of Glyn Avenue, Coolock, had pleaded guilty at Swords District Court to unlawful possession of €200 of cannabis at Stockhole Lane, Swords, on April 28.

Sergeant Bob Kavanagh previously gave evidence the defendant was "fidgeting his hands and acting nervously".

Byrne admitted the cannabis was for his own use.

Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said Byrne does not have a drugs problem.
