Family thank Magnier for Nicole's recovery

THE family of a Wicklow native seriously injured in an accident while working on John Magnier's Australian stud farm have thanked the multimillionaire for his support.

Equine science graduate Nicole Newsome (23), from Aughrim, Co Wicklow, was involved in a crash in the all-terrain vehicle she was travelling in while working on on Magnier's Coolmore Stud Farm, three hours north of Sydney. She was almost three months into her year-long working holiday when the incident occurred last Friday.

The young woman suffered a number of broken bones in her foot and ankle, while three of her fingers on her left hand had to be amputated after getting crushed beneath the roll cage of the ATV.

Nicole's father Thomas told of how reclusive racing tycoon Magnier, thought to be worth over €650m, and his son Tom Magnier, have gone above and beyond for injured Nicole, putting her family at ease while they await departure to be at her side.

The Magniers had Nicole airlifted to a hospital in Sydney within five minutes of the accident and ensured she was seen by a top prosthetic surgeon.

"The Magniers have assured us that whatever we need, or Nicole needs, will be provided - it has taken a weight off our minds."

Mr Magnier has also promised Nicole -- who will be in a wheelchair for a number of weeks -- a new job in one of Coolmore Stud's offices while she gets back to full fitness and returns to the farm.

Magnier's help has meant that the Newsomes have been able to stay in Ireland while Nicole undergoes treatment -- assured that she is being well looked after.

"John Magnier called me personally and said if we needed anything at all just to call -- we can't ask for anything more."

Thomas also pointed out that the Irish millionaire is currently making an apartment at the stud wheelchair friendly for the Wicklow native for when she leaves hospital, and has provided her friend with a hotel room close to the hospital to keep her company.

The family are due to depart for Australia in the coming weeks. Magnier has arranged for them to be picked up at the airport and whisked to the plush stud farm.

Despite her injuries, dad Thomas says that Nicole is "in great spirits".
