Family and girlfriend Shona keep rising star Barry grounded
He's currently the toast of Hollywood and has been tipped for the top after appearing in a string of acclaimed movies.
However, actor Barry Keoghan (24) has credited his family and friends for helping to keep him grounded during his dizzying ascent up the showbiz ladder.
He has also had stunning girlfriend Shona Guerin by his side for most of the publicity whirlwind of the past 12 months.
"It is hard to keep your head sometimes. I just make sure I surround myself with good people," he said. "They keep you in check, keep your feet on the ground. You hear a lot of talk of 'you're great' and that can lead you to lose your head a little and distract you. I've stayed friends with the boys I've known since I was 10. My family helped a lot as well."
The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dunkirk star has had ever-supportive girlfriend Shona at his side.
She has accompanied him to a lot of the red-carpet premieres and events both here and Stateside.
He first met the Killarney native on a night out in the Kingdom earlier this year. The pair have been inseparable ever since.
"It's all new to me and it's new to her too and we're experiencing it together," Barry said. "In the space of only two weeks she met Harry Styles, Nicole Kidman and Tom Hardy and it's overwhelming for her.
"For someone to be brought into all that, it's nice to do it together.
"To be honest, I still get awestruck when I meet my heroes and the people I admire. I think that's only natural."
Barry plans to enjoy a nice Christmas at home in his native north inner city home. Then he'll be jetting off again to the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in Utah at the end of January.
There he will see the world premiere screening of his new movie, American Animals, which tells the story of four young men who attempt to pull off one of the most audacious robberies in US history.
The former Love/Hate star took time out from his schedule yesterday to help unveil the new Luxe screens at Odeon Blanchardstown.
The screens are the first of their kind of the country.
