Fake gear man avoids prison
a Pakistani national who was selling counterfeit sportswear at his Balbriggan stall has received an 18-month suspended sentence.
Amjad Farooq (39) opened the stall selling tracksuits, hoodies and other goods after falling into financial difficulties when his shop closed.
Farooq, of Riverwood Gardens, Castleknock, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to exposing for sale goods bearing the trademarks of Adidas and Pauls Boutique on July 22, 2012.
Daft Punk Lucky song of the year
Daft Punk hit Get Lucky has been named song of the year at an annual awards event celebrating airplay prowess.
It beat tracks composed by Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Emeli Sande to take the prize at the BMI Awards in London for being the most performed song on US radio and TV in the past 12 months .
Van Morrison received an award for Brown Eyed Girl, which has achieved 11 million plays in the US.
Finnigan rape remark outrage
TV host Judy Finnigan has been criticised after suggesting during a live TV show that a rape victim did not receive any "bodily harm".
She was making her debut on ITV's Loose Women when she made her comments during a discussion about footballer Ched Evans who has served half of a five-year sentence for raping a woman in a hotel room.
Finnigan said: "He didn't cause any bodily harm to the person." Viewers posted messages on Twitter after the show to criticise her.
'English' parrot learns Spanish
A parrot that spoke English when it disappeared from its home four years ago has been reunited with its owner - and now speaks Spanish.
The reunion was brought about by a California vet who mistook the parrot for her own missing pet.
Teresa Micco tracked Nigel's microchip to Darren Chick, a Briton who lives in Torrance. Little is known about Nigel's whereabouts for the past four years, but Chick says the bird is now squawking away in Spanish.
