Factory output plunges

INDUSTRIAL production in Ireland suffered the biggest quarterly drop since records began 30 years ago.

Factory output in the country dropped a further 2.1pc in November as there were a number of medicines coming 'off patent'. Between September and November, industrial production plummeted by a significant 14.4pc -- the largest quarterly drop in 30 years, according to the CSO. Production was down 6.8pc compared to the same period last year and most of the fall-off was due to a slump in the pharmaceuticals sector.
