THE value of goods exported in January fell sharply compared to the same month last year, €6.79bn, down €882m compared to January 2012.

The seasonally adjusted export figure of €6.85bn was 0.5pc higher than in December, however.

Merrion economist Alan McQuaid said the CSO figures were weaker than expected.
