Exchequer tax take up
THE amount raked in by the Exchequer in tax in January was up 17pc compared with January last year, figures from the Department of Finance show.
The figures show that the amount taken in was €3.665bn.
This is partly due to an extra €250m in Corporation tax receipts, which were due to be collected in December but were not collected until January.
However, the pressure on our finances coming from the national debt is also revealed.
The cost of servicing the debt was €769m in January.
Income tax was also up 27.7pc year-on-year, partly due to the imposition of the USC charge.
