ESB profits dive 40pc

STATE-OWNED energy group ESB recorded a 40pc drop in profits for the first half of 2011, due to increased interest payments and finance costs.

And the ESB Electric Ireland division, which sells electricity and gas to businesses and consumers, lost more than €13m during the six-month period. Accounts show revenues jumped by €33m over the same period in 2010, to €1.38bn, and operating profits grew by 20pc to €212m.
