Election Briefs: Six candidates run for Fis Nua

A NEW political party Fis Nua has confirmed it will run six candidates.

The party wants to reduce VAT by 3pc and phase out VRT and motor tax, replacing them with a fuel surcharge.

Three former Green Party members are included in the line-up.



Greens ask FG to tally funding

THE Green Party has called on Fine Gael to explain the source of its funding.

The Greens said there was a "large gap" in credibility between what FG has declared in its donations and its available funds for the election campaign.



FG's O'Reilly to abolish HSE

FINE Gael's health spokesman Dr James O'Reilly has said he will abolish the HSE when he is Health Minister.

But he added: "Of course that is if I am elected by the people of Dublin North and appointed to the position by my party leader."



SF: 40pc cut to ministers' pay

SINN Fein leader Gerry Adams has pledged to cut ministerial salaries by 40pc and TDs' salaries by 20pc.

Mr Adams also said Sinn Fein would reverse the Budget cuts and abolish the Universal Social Charge but increase the top rate of tax on people earning over €100,000 to 48pc.
