Election Briefs: Lucinda's views her own, say FG
FINE Gael has distanced itself from equality spokeswoman Lucinda Creighton's stance on gay marriage.
Gay rights protesters have called for Creighton to be sacked after arguing that marriage was "primarily about children".
The comments lead to a barrage of criticism online and resulted in party HQ issuing a statement to say that the views were Ms Creighton's personal opinion.
Voting turnout low on islands
TURNOUT has been low on the islands that were allowed to go to the poll yesterday.
Just 50pc of voters on Tory Island off Donegal turned out, while only 15 people out of 67 registered on Inishboffin cast their vote.
Over 950 ballot papers have already been issued to islands off the north-west coast to ensure residents off the mainland are included in Election 2011.
