THE Women's Mini Marathon has secured a major new backer in health insurer VHI Healthcare.
VHI will sponsor the race for five years, with the next edition of the annual race scheduled to take place on June 1.
The Herald is the official newspaper to the Mini Marathon, the biggest all-female event of its kind in the world.
Participants in this year's race raised €12m for a range of charities.
"VHI Healthcare is delighted to support the Women's Mini Marathon," VHI chief executive John O'Dwyer said.
"This is truly a unique event which sees women of all ages and abilities coming together to achieve their fitness goals and raise money for their chosen charities.
"The health benefits, both physical and mental, associated with running are unparalleled.
"We are delighted, therefore, to have the opportunity to promote this area and hope to encourage more people to dust off their runners and take the first step towards running as a hobby.
"We look forward to working to further develop this fantastic event while also supporting women across Ireland to achieve their running goals," Mr O'Dwyer said.
