Dubliner Stuart's newest role is Elementary
Irish actor Stuart Townsend is rejuvenating his acting career after being cast in hit TV show Elementary.
Stuart dated Hollywood star Charlize Theron for nine years and the couple were rumoured to be shopping for a house in Foxrock before they split in 2010.
Best known for his turns in TV shows Will and Grace and Betrayal, Stuart will now play the role of an insurance firm boss in the CBS drama.
The show is a modern take on Arthur Conan Doyle's classic character Sherlock Holmes - played by Jonny Lee Miller.
He flees London for Manhattan after a stint in rehab and arrives to find that his father has assigned a sober companion to live with him - Lucy Liu's Dr Joan Watson.
The two find that they make a good team and are soon cracking cases.
Howth-native Stuart will take on the recurring role as Watson's new boss at a global insurance firm in the show that will be on our screens next year.
Executive producer on the show Rob Doherty has revealed when Stuart's character will appear.
"The company has hired Joan a handful of times with small assignments, and she's managed to catch their eye and they want her to join on a more permanent basis," he explained.
