Driver who stole petrol banned for four years

AN UNINSURED driver who drove off without paying for petrol in a garage has been fined €3,600 and banned from driving for four years.

Eamon Stamp (28) had borrowed a friend's car when he committed the offences.

Judge Anthony Halpin imposed the fine and ban at Dublin District Court.

Stamp, with an address at Deerpark Avenue, Tallaght, admitted uninsured driving and stealing €78 worth of petrol at Topaz Service Station, Citywest on October 8, 2013.

The court heard he filled the tank at the garage and left without paying, but the registration was identified on CCTV.

The court heard the defendant was now serving a sentence and there was "no prospect" of him paying compensation for the theft.
