Donations to politicians

PROPERTY developers' donations to politicians should be made public ahead of the Meath East by-elections, a local councillor has said.

Cllr Eoin Holmes said he has never accepted a cent from a property developer and called on all candidates to come clean on their donations in this election or previous elections.

"We saw the consequences of this disastrous approach when our economy based on political patronage on the one hand and property speculation on the other, crashed and burned in 2008," he said. "I am now calling on all candidates in the by-election to come clean on any donations they have received from property interests for this campaign or for previous campaigns."
