Detained teenager picked up cannabis
A TEENAGE inmate of a detention centre brought a drugs package inside after it was thrown in over the wall, a court heard.
Evan O'Leary (19) was fined €500 for taking the €30 worth of drugs into St Patrick's Institution from the exercise yard.
O'Leary, of Churchfield Terrace East, Cork, pleaded guilty to bringing drugs into a detention centre on January 26 last.
He also admitted possession of cannabis and diazepam.
The court heard the accused picked up the package from the ground in the recreation yard and concealed it on his person. It was retrieved later in a search.
The drugs had been thrown over the wall and came through the net when O'Leary picked the package up.
