Derelict D4 property makes E2m in auction
A DERELICT Victorian house which was used as the headquarters of a religious order has been sold for an estimated €2m.
The building, which was owned by the Jesuits, is understood to have attracted interest from a number of property developers.
Located on Eglinton Road in Dublin 4, the property suffered €3m worth of damage after being destroyed by a fire in 2007.
It is the second valuable property to be flogged in the area within a week, after 75 Eglinton Road sold at auction for €1.3m. It was previously used by Garret Fitzgerald to launch his political career.
The order was originally seeking an asking price of €2.5m for the building, but it is understood an offer closer to €2m was accepted.
The order had to pay $166m in compensation to hundreds of American Indians and Alaskans who were subject to abuse in the Catholic order's schools.
