Danny leaves Script behind for big Voice UK role
DUBLIN hunk Danny O'Donoghue may be taking centre stage on The Voice UK - but he won't be inviting his bandmates along.
The Herald can reveal how fans of the programme shouldn't hold their breath if they're hoping to see The Script on the BBC show.
"I'm performing with all the coaches and then I'm performing with all my acts but I'm not performing with The Script," said Danny (31).
He explained how he wants to hold off performing with Mark Sheehan and Glen Power on the show until all their new material for their eagerly awaited album is complete.
"I don't think the album will be finished in time so I'd like to wait until all the goodwill from the show is out there and then we'll release the new album," he continued.
"We have 10 songs done already but I think we're going to have 30 to pick from by the end of it. We'll pick the best 12 songs from that as this time around, we really need to pick it up."
The Finglas native has been winning over a new army of fans across the water as he gears up to make his debut on the contest this weekend.
In a massive boost for his career, he has managed to nab a slot on the judging panel alongside Jessie J, Will.i.am and Welsh legend Tom Jones. But he has admitted he's the "underdog" on the show and is probably the least-known judge.
"I would be stupid if I said I was the most famous person up there on the panel. You have three of the most famous people in the world - and then me. I am the underdog for sure," he said.
He was recently the brunt of jokes from Gavin And Stacey star James Corden who has dubbed him Danny I Dunno Who.
Shrugging off the criticism, Danny replied: "James who? Whatever. It's up to other people to make up their own minds. I know I'm on this show for what I've done in my own career. I've spent 15 years in the music industry," he said.
"I think people should check out the show, and in particular James should probably check it out, before he goes saying things like that."
