Daniel and Majella take on the Queen on Christmas Day
Daniel and Majella O'Donnell are going up against Queen Elizabeth II, with the couple set to deliver a special message to viewers all over Ireland on Christmas Day.
The British queen's annual yuletide message is watched by millions every year in the UK, but this year the country singer and his wife are hoping to attract audiences to TV3 as they reflect on the year gone by.
The pair will look back over some of the biggest moments of the past 12 months, including Brexit and Donald Trump being named as US president-elect.
They will encourage the public to remember what is most important as we look ahead to 2017.
"Majella and I were delighted to be asked to deliver TV3's Christmas Message this year. We hope what we say reaches the hearts of everyone on one of the most special days of the year," Daniel said.
The famous couple are following in the footsteps of popular drag performer Panti Bliss (Rory O'Neill) who addressed the nation on TV3 last Christmas.
Majella recently hit the headlines when she lambasted mental health professionals about the often hefty prices they charge for their services. She referenced her friend, who could not afford €300 per hour for a psychiatrist and described it as "shameful".
"I can accept that a GP needs to refer you but what really p***es me off is the fact that no one could see her until at least February.
"But that doesn't really matter because she could never afford the €300 per hour fee that is being charged.
"€300 per hour! What the f**k is that all about? It is shameful," she said.
