Dana fears realised after sex allegations against relative
DANA'S fears of "malicious" rumours emerging about her family have materialised after it was reported that sex allegations have been made against a relative.
The independent candidate will today attempt to mend her faltering campaign after details of an alleged police probe into the sending of hate mail was made public.
It has been reported that police in the US are investigating an anonymous letter sent to the presidential hopeful which makes cruel sex allegations against a relative.
And the former MEP is expected to make a TV appearance over the weekend in an attempt to explain her astonishing outburst towards the end of the Prime Time debate.
Dana stunned fellow candidates and RTE host Miriam O'Callaghan by launching a shocking and emotional attack on what she branded as "vile" allegations made against her family.
"It has come to my attention that yet further allegations -- this time of a most untrue and malicious vile nature -- have been levelled against a member of my family.
"Let it be known that lawyers have already been instructed to forensically investigate a particular communication that has spread this vile false allegation which attempts to implicate me and destroy my good character."
It has now emerged that the Derry woman made the claim as she was expecting the details of the probe to be published the following day.
The Herald revealed yesterday how Dana's campaign has fallen into disarray with a number of her supporters fearing that she would pull out.
However, the Department of the Environment has revealed that the singer's name will definitely appear on the ballot paper on October 27 regardless of whether she wants to withdraw or not.
Dana will continue to speak with her legal teams in both Ireland and the US today, according to her spokesperson.
And the former MEP is expected to come out fighting and is already being lined up to make a sensational TV appearance over the weekend.
A spokesperson for TV3 told the Herald today: "Obviously if Dana requested an interview on TV3 we would consider that but nothing has been confirmed as yet."
