Dad jailed for pharmacy raid

A Tallaght father-of-two who was linked to a pharmacy robbery after discarding his social welfare card nearby has been given a five-year sentence.

Keith Farrell (34), of Bawnlea Crescent, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm at Mark Ellis Pharmacy, Tallaght, on June 14, 2010.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of shotgun cartridges at Bawnlea Drive, Tallaght on November 5, 2010.

He has 23 previous convictions.

Judge Nolan said alcohol seemed to have influenced and wrecked Farrell's life but noted psychiatric reports held out hope for his rehabilitation. He imposed a five-year sentence.

Kennedy denies drug driving

Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Senator Robert F Kennedy and JFK's niece, said her recent car accident was caused not by illegal drugs or a sleeping pill, but by a seizure stemming from an old brain injury.

Kennedy (52) pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving while drug-impaired. She is due back in court in August.
