A DAD-of-two who spent stolen charity money on drugs and a taxi from Mayo to Galway has received a partially suspended nine-year sentence for this theft and two robberies.
Terence Maughan (35), of Cabra Park, Phibsboro, Dublin, had been living in Mayo when he walked into a St Vincent de Paul shop office and took €2,510.
Maughan pleaded guilty at Castlebar Circuit Court to stealing the charity money at Castlebar on July 10, 2009.
He had pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two other robbery charges.
A JURY in the trial of a Kerry man accused of raping and sexually assaulting an Australian tourist has heard forensic evidence was found which linked him to the woman.
The 25-year-old accused has pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual assault on the woman, in Kerry, on July 8, 2009.
Forensic scientist Sandra McGrath said that in DNA profiles she received two vials of blood from the accused and one from the complainant, along with tape lifts with skin samples from the woman's bra and underpants. These showed links with the accused.
The trial is in its closing stages.
Disney star Demi Lovato said she is ready to go back to work and is thanking fans for lifting her up during what she calls "probably the darkest time in my life".
The 18-year-old star entered a treatment facility last November to deal with "emotional and physical issues". Lovato, who starred in Sonny With A Chance, had to drop out of a tour with the Jonas Brothers.
