Dad caught with bags of heroin near home
A JUDGE has ordered a probation report on a father-of-two caught in possession of heroin on a street near his home.
Patrick Salinger (39) had not been convicted of drugs for seven years and had "slipped up" on the day, a court heard.
He had a 20-year addiction to heroin but was now clean.
Salinger, of Drumcairn Avenue, Tallaght, pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to possession of heroin at Fortunes-town Way on March 14 last year.
The court heard a garda on duty in the area at 3.40pm stopped and searched Salinger under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Two small bags of heroin with a street value of €40 were found.
The accused had 62 previous convictions for offences including criminal damage and burglary, but he only had two drugs convictions, dating to 2003.
His lawyer said Salinger had now been drug free since March last year and was not dependent on methadone.
Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case to May and ordered urinalysis tests.
