Cyclists take it up a gear in city spin

city centre employees took it up a gear when they took part in an annual lunchtime spin yesterday.

Over 1,000 bike enthusiasts were joined by Lord Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke on the leisurely 5km cycle.

Cyclists Fabio Raimondi and Aisling Dunne (above) from Google got into the swing of the fancy dress competition.

There was also a 'best-dressed helmet' competition.

The annual spin started in Grand Canal Square and travelled through the city, from Ringsend, over the East Link Bridge, passing the 3 Arena on the North Wall Quay, over the Samuel Beckett Bridge, before returning to Grand Canal Square.

The 30-minute event was organised by Dublin City Council as part of National Bike Week.

The Lunchtime Cycle welcomed everyone working in and around Dublin city to get involved in the healthy exercise.
