Custody for firework teen Bench warrant out for girl (14)
A DUBLIN teenager who threw a lit firework at gardai last Halloween has been handed a 28-day custodial sentence at the Dublin Children's Court.
The boy, aged 16, pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to an offence under the Explosives Act for throwing an ignited firework at gardai, on October 31 last, in north inner city Dublin.
The boy had 10 prior convictions for criminal damage, theft and possessing drugs. In imposing the sentence, Judge Leonard said that the teenage boy's lack of engagement and reoffending was the central issue.
Bench warrant out for girl (14)
A BENCH warrant has been issued for the arrest of a mother and her 14-year-old daughter who is charged with stealing nearly €500 worth of clothes from Pennys in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.
The girl had been remanded on bail earlier to appear at the Dublin Children's Court yesterday. Special directions from the DPP are being sought as to whether the case is to proceed in light of the defendant's young age.
The court had been told that the girl was aged 13 when she allegedly stole €464 of clothes on December 6 last.
