Cross-border BMW thieves busted
A GANG suspected of stealing top end BMWs worth well over €3m has been busted in a cross-border operation.
Gardai and the PSNI believe that the mob - made up of East European gangsters - are responsible for the theft of more than 120 cars in Dublin and elsewhere in Leinster over the last 18 months.
The gang, led by a Lithuanian criminal with a base in North Dublin, specialise in cloning car keys with sophisticated laptops to take the luxury vehicles.
After a series of surveillance operations by gardai he was finally arrested by the PSNI in a special operation in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
There were three other men arrested in the operation. A source explained: "The sophistication and scale of this gang's activities is absolutely staggering.
"These cars were shipped out of Ireland in containers within hours of the vehicles being stolen," he explained.
