Cowen embarking on new career as management guru

FORMER Taoiseach Brian Cowen is starting a new career as a management consultant.

The 53-year-old has set up Cowen Consulting to handle the earnings from his new venture.

The father of two from Co Offaly has not worked full-time since leaving office in March 2011, but now it seems he is ready for a new challenge.

EXECUTIVE

Documents filed with the Companies Registration Office reveal that the firm's main purpose will be "to carry on the business of providing business and consultancy services, and any other related activities".

Mr Cowen is the owner of 99pc of the company's shares, while his wife and co-director Mary, owns the remainder.

According to the filing, the business will operate out of the family home in Ballard, Co Offaly.

It will not have to file its first accounts until next year.

Last year, Mr Cowen completed a Stanford executive programme, which was the first suggestion that he was interested in taking up a career in business consultancy.

It is a six-week course run by California's Stanford Graduate School of Business.

He footed the €47,000 bill for the executive education programme.

Mr Cowen was lectured by Condoleezza Rice, the former US Secretary of State, and George Shultz, another one time Republican holder of the same office.
