Youth for trial over theft of €35k car
A YOUTH is to stand trial for stealing a €35,000 BMW following a 'letterbox fishing burglary' at a house in south Dublin.
The boy has been charged at Dublin Children's Court with burglary and motor theft at Woodstown Way in Knocklyon, in the early hours of May 5 last.
It is also alleged that about 10 days later, he was arrested at his west Dublin home and was in possession of stolen property, including a purse, a laptop computer and a sat-nav system.
In an outline of the evidence to determine jurisdiction, Rathfarnham Garda Maria Dennison had told Judge John O'Connor that "a bamboo pole was put though the letterbox" and keys for a 08-reg five series BMW were "fished out".
The vehicle has not been recovered.
Gda Dennison had said that CCTV footage showed the boy approaching the house with the pole and then taking the car.
Yesterday, the youth was served with a book of evidence and Judge O'Connor made an order sending him forward for trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court where, on December 20, he will face his next hearing.
The youth, who has not yet indicated how he will plead to the charges, was remanded on continuing bail.
